Richard Ying Ji, Ph.D

Richard grew up in China.
He is a founding partner and president of Vista International.

After receiving his undergraduate degree in Shanghai, he came to US for his graduate studies.  He has a master’s from University of Washington in Seattle, and a Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota.

As a graduate student, Richard became a national leader in the Chinese students’ and scholars’ community in the United States in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His leadership skills and years of service with the State of Minnesota have earned him tremendous respect on both sides of the Pacific. He is well connected in both community and government in China as well as in the United States.

Richard’s responsibilities include business development, project management and managing teams comprised of people with widely varied backgrounds. He possesses a keen understanding of customer requirements and uses his knowledge to create value opportunities within the Chinese environment. In China, circumstances and the approach to technical problems and serving customer expectations are very different from what we’re accustomed to in the U.S. and Europe. Richard’s considerable exposure to Western practices contributes to his unique ability to see both sides. He identifies problems, before they reach critical mass. He also sees opportunities and leverages advantages on behalf of Vista customers.

Richard manages a well qualified technical and management team and all aspects of supply chain processes in both outsourced materials and in-house production. His insight into cost structures and the negotiating culture in China is invaluable in fostering win/win scenarios for long term relationships. He commands loyalty, respect and commitment from both sides during a negotiation, creating a climate where quality is deliberate and sustainable and consistent performance is guaranteed.
